If the temperature drops below freezing, the bacteria in your system can go into a dormant state and stop functioning effectively. This can lead to a buildup of organic matter and waste, causing your system to overflow or even freeze. Luckily, there are precautions you can take to ensure your system is equipped for colder temperatures.

Water usage should be limited to once a day, with quick showers and avoiding the dishwasher. Dripping faucets may cause flooding.  If going away for a long time, have someone run warm water regularly.  Fix any leaks to prevent freezing.  Turn off alarm and breakers if freezing occurs, and limit water usage to flushing solids only until thawed.  Once above freezing, turn on breakers and alarm again.  Do not use antifreeze and contact provider immediately if there are issues.
