Why We Got Into the Septic Business

We were introduced to aerobic septic systems when we moved from Colorado to Texas about 24 years ago.
We built a home in Bentwater and had an aerobic septic system installed by a “professional.”
Right off the bat, it didn’t work properly.
Come to find out, it wasn’t even wired correctly.
Mitch, being an electrician, was able to track down the issue and fix it himself.
That Was Just the Beginning
A few months later, we received a certified letter from the county stating we were in violation for not having a maintenance contract in place — along with a $500 fine if we didn’t get one.
That didn’t make sense.
It was our understanding that a two-year contract was supposed to be included with the installation.
We tried contacting the installer multiple times with no response.
Only after mentioning legal action did we finally get a call back.
The Turning Point - Why We Got Into The Septic Business
That experience — along with a few others — is what led Mitch to pursue his aerobic septic license.
It wasn’t a quick or easy process. Standards were actually much higher at the time, which makes it a bit of an oxymoron — it was harder to get into the septic business then than it is today. Looking back, it does make you think — if standards were higher 24 years ago and we still experienced those kinds of issues, what’s happening today?
But that’s a conversation for another post.
At the time, Mitch was still working full-time as an electrician at Miller Brewing, all while studying, testing, and working toward getting licensed.
It took persistence, but within a year, we were up and running.
How It Grew
At first, there were no plans to get into the septic business. Mitch just wanted to make sure his own system was done right. But one thing led to another — and here we are.
Word spread quickly.
Neighbors found out he was licensed and began reaching out for help.
One job turned into another, and before long, it became something much bigger.
23 Years Later
Now, more than two decades later, we’re still here.
What started out of frustration turned into a business built on doing things the right way — the way we wish it had been done for us. And not a lick of regret.
Since entering our business in the Best of Hood County contest six years ago, we’ve been honored to receive Best in Septic each year.

Coleman Aerobic Septic
We didn’t set out to get into septic — we got into it because we saw how it was being done, and knew it could be done better.
Serving homeowners throughout Granbury, Hood County, Somervell County, and Erath County for more than 23
years.
Septic work isn’t glamorous — but keeping your system running properly is what we do best.
